Over the past few weeks, we, together with other Taranaki Iwi and our Whanau Ora lead providers, have been actively involved in planning and responding to the spread of COVID-19. This panui is the first of many collaborative efforts as a collective of North Taranaki Iwi and Tui Ora to provide a central point of communication. Most of us have been communciating via our facebook pages, so please check ours for regular updates. Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tama o Taranaki http://www.facebook.com/Te-Rūnanga-o-Ngāti-Tama-102647527918940

Many of our people have multiple iwi affiliations and we encourage you to read their Facebook pages as well.

In addition to own country's nation-wide response to saving lives, each region has its own response, and members will no doubt be following theirs closely. And for our members in other countries, we can only pray you are keeping yourselves and your tamariki mokopuna safe.

A small but important note re socially acceptable facebook behaviour specifically for people who use facebook and other social media to incite derision and hatred of others. This is an unprecedented time of crisis for our nation and our world. Do not use this crisis to deride others via any of our social media platforms. These comments will be deleted and the writers will be banned from the page. This is a time for kindness and care, not hatred and harsh criticism.

Let's take our Prime Minister's lead on this. Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui.
